Graduate Studies in the Humanities
The Department of Interdisciplinary Humanities offers two Master of
Arts (MA) tracks, a doctoral track, and a Certificate in the Humanities.
The first Master's Degree is The
Junior College Instructors Program which is offered in conjunction
with the College of Education. This program has been designed primarily
for the student whose immediate professional objective is teaching in
a two-year college.
The second Master of Arts program is the The
Interdisciplinary Program in the Humanities and the Arts that provides
a graduate Liberal Studies degree program in the humanities and the
arts.
The Doctoral Program,
leading to the doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.)degree in Humanities, has
been designed to offer qualified students a broad interdisciplinary
platform combining offerings from the participating departments of Anthropology;
Art History; Classical Languages, Literature, and Civilization; Communication;
Dance; English; History; Modern Languages and Linguistics; Music; Philosophy;
Religion; and the School of Theatre.
The Certificate in the
the Humanities provides a student holding or working toward an M.A.
or Ph.D. in one of the sub-disciplines of the Humanities (or indeed
outside the discipline) the requisite number of graduate hours in the
Humanities (18) to be qualified to teach Humanities at the junior college
level.
