The expressed goal of the coordinators and participants of InterDisciplines Annual Academic Conference, sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Program in the Humanities at Florida State University (IPH), is to discover innovative ways in which the form and content of both academic and creative work cross disciplinary boundaries and intersects with other approaches to a common theme.

We are committed to creating a space where graduate students from various disciplines may come together to foster a dialogue among traditionally disparate fields. The creation of such an interdisciplinary dialogue, especially in the beginning stages of professional development, can bring to the forefront assumptions that potentially underlie the formation of knowledge.

This year's conference, "Inter-disciplining the Body," includes papers and creative work from a variety of fields including art history, music, religion, communications, english, history, and humanities that focus on the body.  Presenations construct the body as a site of contestation formed within and between the spaces of the family, media, and stage.  Participants explore the historical, disembodied, and metaphoric body - bodies that are naked and costumed, in health and in pain.

Spencer Tunick, the keynote speaker for InterDisciplines, photographs nude figures in public spaces. His site-specific installations range from one body to thousands, and bring to the forefront issues regarding the social and political construction of landscapes.
